3 fundamentals about Blu-Ray disc players

February 17, 2010

The name Blu-Ray is derived from the method it uses to read data from the discs. Unlike ordinary disc players which uses Red laser, Blu-Ray disc players uses blue laser beam for performing this task. With the blue laser’s ability to focus more tightly these discs can hold more amounts of data on a disc sized as the same as a DVD. When compared to the ordinary DVD with the capacity of holding 10 GB, Blu-ray disc can hold much more, that is up to 50 gigabytes. Extra space can accommodate video with 6 times more resolution than DVD. In addition, it offers exceptional surround sound tracks as well.

One glaring difference that makes Blu-Ray superior to other DVD is its advanced and much improved picture quality.

In order to get the benefits of a Blu-Ray disc you need to get a Blu-Ray Disc player along with a HDTV which will utilise the best of the features and gives you optimal widescreen effect. If you want to go with you older televisions then before buying a Blu-Ray disc player you need to check its compatibility. At the back of the panel you can check the available outputs and see if it can be connected to the players. The advanced players are capable of sending audio and video to the latest TVs and it displays them through a HDMI. Blu-Ray players can send HD signals to these HDTV’s of 720p, 1080i and 1080p models. In order to get the best picture quality to can go for a 40” TV.
